A neighborhood landmark

Born with West Hollywood.

Marix opened in July 1984—the same year West Hollywood became a city. What began in a 1922 Spanish bungalow grew into a gathering place where the LGBTQ+ community, longtime regulars, and new friends could feel at home.

01

A historic beginning

Founders Mary Sweeney and Victoria Shemaria brought authentic Tex-Mex cooking and sizzling fajitas to Los Angeles from a little Spanish bungalow.

02

A flavor of its own

Potent margaritas, sizzling plates, warm chips, and that famous apple pie made Marix feel unlike anywhere else in town.

03

A true gathering place

For generations of LGBTQ+ Angelenos, Marix has been more than dinner—it has been a place to meet, celebrate, and belong.

The house legend

Meet the Kickass Margarita.

Cold. Bold. Potent. The drink that launched a thousand “just one more” conversations.
